Welcome to my 2022 Challenge
In which I bite off more than I can chew
Welcome to the new year. I hope it’s as good for you as I hope it will be for me. Whatever goals you have set for your year (and please — for the sake of your success and mental health, I hope you never refer to them as New Years’ Resolutions), I hope you crush them. So let’s get down to business.
Today is the start of something different. I will challenge myself this year to produce something on this platform every day until December 31st, 2022. Part of Doing it Right in 2022 is to practice consistency. I have never been consistent at writing, podcasting, or much of anything for that matter. It’s why I’m still working a day job instead of doing something I love doing, and I need to change that. I love to write, podcast, shoot photography, and make videos. I think I’m pretty good at it. However, you wouldn’t know that because I’m hit and miss at everything. I’ve never held myself accountable. Today that changes.
So, here’s how I see this happening. Every morning, I will block out a period, say, half an hour. In that time, I will write whatever comes to mind. It might be something insightful, and it might be bullshit. Whatever I write, I will edit after work and produce it. You’ll see the finished product appear the following day. For example, I wrote this bit on December 31st; you’re seeing it today.
I may use wring prompts, Quora Questions, stories that I may or may not have any business telling, and I will do my best to respond to questions. So, if you have any for me during this adventure, I’d be happy to answer them in the coming days. Also, feel free to comment on articles as they appear, DM me, or hit me up on my social media accounts. They may end up as content here, so please let me know if you prefer to remain anonymous.
As for content length, the only limit I have is the half-hour clock. So if I write 100 words or 1000 words in a half-hour, that’s it. I’m not going to force the word count; I’m only practicing consistency. The Word count will come later. Also, just because I’m doing this doesn’t mean that I won’t be writing other content. Features, for lack of a better term, will be extra.
One other thing: The plan is to try to repurpose this content on my podcast and in video form. Because I work a day job, that may or may not be feasible, but we’ll see. My main concern is not missing a day here. Since I’m a master of biting off more than I can chew, I am concerned that the time it takes me to repurpose these offerings in other places may lead to burnout. So, I reserve the right to reject that in favor of remaining on task here.
I hope you’ll join me on this little challenge, and thanks for reading. Let’s get started.
