Spare Me Your Self-Help
Hopefully, it’s all died down for all of you, but I’d like to know how many of you got deluged with Self-Help and Personal Development bullshit as the year drew to a close?
I’m sick of the self-help grift, like clockwork at the end of the year, as reliable as 10 percent off coupons. An entire industry based on the idea that you’d be perfect except for this one little thing they can help you with if you buy their book, attend their webinar, or enroll in their course.
Do some of us need help? Sure, but I’m not going to take it from any of these self-appointed gurus or 24-year-old life coaches that pop up in my email or social media feed, and neither should you. If you want to call yourself a life coach, you owe it to the rest of us to look like you’ve seen some shit. I want a life coach to look like Titus Welliver on his 4th cup of coffee, thousand-yard stare, and start every sentence like, “I forgot which war I learned this in, but fella…” I will hang on to every word that man says.
I don’t need self-help, and I don’t want a life coach. The ten percent coupon is only slightly more helpful. Please give me an Experience Coach instead. Someone who’s been there, done that, and has the scars to prove it.
