How I’m Focusing My Efforts This Year
I don’t have to be everywhere.
I’ve been giving some thought to how best to focus my efforts. Let me explain.
I have a Medium site. I also have a blog on my website that needs some TLC. I also have social media accounts. I have three running podcasts and a YouTube Channel that may or may not need a reason for living. The question occurred to me whether or not I need all of that. Can I focus my efforts on a couple of places? What’s a creative to do?
If the name of the job is ‘dig my stuff,’ you could argue that my content needs to be in as many places as possible. I’m sure that’s the Gary Vee Hustle Culture Party Line. But, unfortunately, it also seems that if I spread it everywhere, it’s like splitting the vote. If you have two candidates of the same party running against each other against one person of the other party, then it’s more likely the side with two candidates will lose. I want my candidate — my content — to win. I want it to help gain a following.
So, I think the plan will go something like this: This writing challenge will be on Medium and my podcast. Features will be here exclusively for 30 days, then appear on my blog and LinkedIn. All the social links to stories will be to Medium.
I suppose that this is what the gurus call an editorial calendar. I don’t know much about those. I just know that whatever it is, my calendar will hate me. Or, I’m going to hate my calendar.
It’s one of those.
